چکیده
Background Spirometry is widely regarded as a clinically invaluable measurement method that is of genuine recommend for the diagnosis and management of asthmatic patients. FEV-1 and FEV1/FVC are vastly perceived as asthma severity and control assessment indices, according to the present clinical guidelines. Since FEV-1 index is chiefly within normal ranges even in the most severe cases, the certain criteria for asthma diagnosis is immensely base upon it’s significant alteration after bronchodilator challenge test . FEF25-75% represents a well-established indicator of small airway disease now for decades, however, and It has been demonstrated that asthmatic patients do have remarkably lower FEF25-75%. Additionally FEF 2575% meaningful response to the bronchodilator challenge test is seen in some asthmatics that are healthy in terms of other prognostic parameters.

Validity of Spirometry for Diagnosis of Cough Variant Asthma
Background Cough variant asthma (CVA) is a chronic or recurrent cough without wheezing accompanied by bronchial hyper-responsiveness and eosinophilic inflammation of the airways. This study aimed to evaluate the validity of spirometry in the diagnosis of CVA, as well as determining the specificity and sensitivity of spirometry parameters in CVA. Materials and Methods This descriptive observat...
متن کاملPatterns of changes and diagnostic values of FEF50%, FEF25%-75% and FEF50%/FEF25%-75% ratio in patients with varying control of bronchial asthma.
BACKGROUND The pattern of change in FEF50%, FEF25%-75% and FEF50%/FEF25%-75% ratio depends on mechanics of forceful expiration, provided that non-homogenous lung emptying is faithfully recorded in the expiratory flow-volume loops. OBJECTIVE To assess the potential clinical value of FEF50%, FEF25%-75% and FEF50%/FEF25%-75% ratio as an indicator of bronchial asthma (BA) control. METHODOLOGY T...
متن کاملRole of Methacholine PC20 in FEF25-75% for the Diagnosis of Bronchial Asthma
Background: The methacholine bronchial provocation test is a useful tool for evaluating asthma in patients with normal or near normal baseline lung function. However, the sensitivity of this test is 82∼92% at most. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical usefulness of FEF25-75% in identification of airway hyperresponsiveness in patients with suspected asthmatic symptoms. Methods: ...
متن کاملEffects of early onset asthma and in utero exposure to maternal smoking on childhood lung function.
Both in utero exposures to maternal smoking and asthma are associated with chronic deficits in lung function. We hypothesized that in utero exposure affects lung function in children without asthma and synergistically affects children with early onset asthma. To investigate effects of in utero exposure and age at asthma diagnosis on lung function, we examined longitudinal medical history, tobac...
متن کاملAssessment of Airway Bronchodilation by Spirometry Compared to Airway Obstruction in Young Children with Asthma
A reversibility test by an increase of greater than 12% in FEV1 can support a diagnosis of asthma and alter a patient's treatment plan but may not be applicable to the young ages. We retrospectively gathered spirometric data from 85/271 asthmatic children having mild obstruction (FEV1 > 80% predicted), age 2.6-6.9 years. Spirometry was performed before and 20 min after inhalation of 200 mcg Alb...
